Weekly Practice Plan Example

 

Wednesday

Objective:  Individual fundamentals

 

 

5:45-5:55         Dynamic warm up

                        -progression:  jog, knee hugs, lunge & twist, butt kicks, high knees, shuffle,

carioca, 1 foot up lean and explode, bound/jump

 

5:55-6:05         Partner passing

-right and left hands, move on whistle, one knee, one hand, quick stick

goalie warm up

6:05-6:45         Individual Drill stations 

(4 stations & groups, 10 minutes each)

 

Station 1:       Ground Balls (choose a drill)
-Sideline GBs w/ upfield outlet

-Circle Madness (2 inside a circle, 2 whistles, 1st whistle own the space above the ball, 2nd whistle go after GB)

-GB & outlet every 10 yds GLE to midfield

                        -2 on 1 with an upfield outlet
 

Station 2:       Passing & catching (Choose 1 and alternate)
-Star, Pinwheels, 4-corners, Box passing, 3-man weave, Bates, 20-in-20

Station 3:       Shooting/Dodging (Choose 1 and alternate)
-Syracuse drill (from top & X, dodge bucket and shoot, change levels…incremental to coach passing to cutter and shooting on run

                        -Over the Cage w/ quick split dodge and shoot

                        -Tufts Progression

                        -Shooting line

                        -Wildcat shooting

 

Station 4:       Defense (Choose 1 and alternate)
                        -poke and lift checks and proper technique/placement

-Down the Line checking drill

-Glove taps

-Z drill

-Approach and recover drill

-Bentleys (1-on-1s from points and corners)

-Blue Jay Drill (at X)

-Box passing

-3-man GB

-Breakout drill
 

6:45-6:50         Water Break

 

6:50-7:05         Unit Breakouts

Offense:  “Medfield” (1-3-2 motion with opposite pipe sneak, push to X, jam options)…“Warrior” (1-3-2 motion with adjacent clear throughs)

 

Defense:  “Hopkins” (crease slide) and “Ohio” (adjacent slide)

 

or

 

Attack working on dodging, feeding, protecting, shooting

Mids working on dodging, shooting on run, GBs & defense

Defense…working on footwork, checking, sliding, GBs, clearing

 

7:05-7:15         Transition/unsettled/small-sided games

                        -54s, 43s, 32s, Horserace 43s, Yale transition, short field 43s, Terrapin, etc

 

7:15-7:30         6v6 à Keep score…make competitive…pts for D for saves, nuggets, stops, GBs, clears….points for O for spin, shots on cage, GBs, ride, goals

7:30-7:45         Specialty work

-EMO/MDD

-Face offs

Friday

Objective:  Team/Game Concepts

 

5:45-5:55         Dynamic warm up

Station 1:         Clears
-MGD clear…Runner spot (Mid), 1 spot (Mid), 2 spot (D), 3 spot (Mid), 4 spot (D)

                        -D breakouts above GLE outside restraining box

                        -2 Mids break to above restraining line 45 degree angle from goalie

-never pass or clear ball right up the middle in our defensive end

                        -1 mid breaks to sideline…and becomes “runner”…get him the ball to run it out

           

Station 2:         Fast Breaks/Transition/Unsettled

-4 on 3…with middie chaser

-Offense:  Middie draw the defender, hit the point, keep cutting…quick ball movement

-Defense:  stop the ball, rotate into the ball

-Slow break drill

-54s, 43s, 32s, Terrapin, IO GB alley drill,

Station 3:         Team Defense
-6 on 5 shell drill …O in “13” passes around perimeter
-Ball-side, inside positioning
-Understand who is 2 passes away…you are the off ball help, help to The Wall and recover on pass
-Crease man is 1st slide, man 2 passes away is 2nd slide
-sticks up and to the inside…in passing lanes
-always talking…”I’m 1”, “I’m 2”

 

Station 4:         Team Offense

-Medfield, Warrior, Omaha

-cut and replace rotation

-Dodge. Pass. Pass. Dodge Opposite.

-Ball carrier dodges toward you…clear through

-Pass the ball…cut

-rotation on pass or dodge/drive

-initiate from point up top or X

 

6:45-6:50         Water Break

 

6:50-7:00         Transition/unsettled/small-sided games

                        -54s, 43s, 32s, Horserace 43s, Yale transition, short field 43s, Terrapin, etc

 

7:00-7:10         Game Strategies
